Learning. One of the challenges with education today is that it is very structured, standardized, and seemingly focused on turning out students who memorize well and are filled with facts. In our new world of rapid communication and access to information we need people who think creatively and "out of the box". Think about the one room school house of what we might refer to as the "old days" and how the teaching was done when there were students in all grades in the same room. The teacher acted more as a facilitator and the students learned as much from each other as the older ones could mentor the younger ones. In our new world we all need to do more learning. That is - "learning may be viewed as a process, rather than a collection of factual and procedural knowledge. Learning produces changes in the organism and the changes produced are relatively permanent." Another way to state this is education is what people do to you while learning is what you do to yourself! My suggestion is to ensure that you do the life-long learning so that you stay abreast of new ways and processes so you can make as significant a contribution as possible!
