Moments of truth. This past week Karen was returning to Bermuda and the lady next to her on this flight had missed her cruise ship departure time out of Newark as a result of flight delays. Karen noticed she was having difficulty with the immigration form and asked if she might help. Turns out with the Island Games starting there were no rooms available. So she did not know what to put on the form for where she would be staying. So Karen does what she normally does and we ended up with a house guest for the night and also had her attend an evening party with us. The next morning we gave her a tour to the west end where she could link up with her friends and board her ship. This is a classic case of turning what might have been a bad experience for someone into a great experience. She met a lot of Bermudians, made some new friends and certainly will return to Bermuda again. She also now has a great story to tell. And we have a new friend and also a great story to tell. Too often when we are presented with a challenge we later regret that we did not take a different action. So assess each of your opportunities and turn what might be negative events into positive ones. You will be surprised at the results.
" The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions-the little, soon forgotten charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look, a heart-felt compliment, and the countless infinitesimals of pleasurable and genial feeling. "
- Samuel Taylor Coleridge
