Optimists. This past week we have been able to look out over our beautiful Hamilton Harbour and watch the small Optimist sailboats do their job of teaching young Bermudians how to sail. They learn about the boat itself, how the wind can be used to move the boat in the fastest possible way, and how to use the tools that are available to them to get maximum speed and get to the marks, and ultimately the finish line. Let’s apply these lessons to our economy as we struggle to get business moving by establishing goals (the course), improving our tools and human resources, and then by working together to ensure that we move towards these goals. The wind may vary from light breezes to strong gusts so we will have to adapt to these to take advantage of every opportunity. What is important is to set the goals and get started. What will you do this week to establish some new goals and some new teams so that you can sail “your boat” towards these new goals?
