Teachers. How many of us recall the best teachers that we ever had? Who influenced you the most during your student years? For many of us the foundation laid down during those times has sustained us for a lifetime. It taught us how to learn as this is a lifelong process. There is little doubt that there are still great teachers in our school systems but more and more we read about the crisis in education and how ill prepared our students are for university. This appears to be at cross purposes to what we observe in our younger folks as they know so much more than we did at their young ages. The world is abundant with information but filtering that into a long term knowledge base is the real challenge. We need to ensure that our teachers get supported and in turn that they have high ideals in being responsible for such an important part of a person’s lifetime.
