Fear. Back in the spring of 2008 I was still getting telephone calls from brokers in New York attempting to sell me on the benefits of investing in the stock market. As most of you know I invest in myself, that is, my businesses and their growth. These sales people would be shocked that I would not be in what was the fast growing market. I would usually answer that “what goes up must come down!” Over the past several weeks we have seen the confidence of that market replaced by the fear that the market will not stop going down! I have to say that I never fully understand this either. Like lemmings running over the cliff everyone panics and “sell! sell! sell!” becomes the watchword. Changing this fear back to confidence is the single biggest challenge our leaders face – how to convince people that there is a future, that there are now bargains in the market, that we will recover – if for no other reason than when you next see your grandchildren – the future is theirs – what do you want that future to be? So help change the fear into confidence – talk positively to your friends and neighbours, take action!
